Football is a popular spectator and participation sport. The Italian national team is among the very best in the world and has won the World Cup on four different occasions: 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006. Only Brazil has a better record. Major Italian clubs frequently compete at a high level of European competitions.
Rugby union is also recognized in Italy; clubs compete domestically in the Super 10, as well as the European Heineken Cup tournament. The national team competes in the Six Nations Championship, and is a regular at the Rugby World Cup.
Cycling is also a well-represented sport in Italy. Italians are second only to Belgium in winning the most World Cycling Championships. The Giro d'Italia is a world famous long distance bicycle race held every May and constitutes one of the three Grand Tours along with the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España, each of which last approximately three weeks.
The Sports Group organizes various events in contexts that go beyond popular Italian sports, such as dragonboat (which we do occasionally) and karate (every Tuesday and Thursday evening at Tanglin Club - for more info call +6586911695. Cv of the Karate instructor: Cristian is a black belt 3rd dan of Karate wado ryu and certified instructor since 2007. He began to study the noble martial art of karate when he was still a kid. What we love most , however, is soccer: please join us every Saturday at 4 pm at Offside (Novena).
